Back to Science: The role of fresh water science in fresh water management.
24-27th November 2008 Plymouth International Hotel New Plymouth Taranaki
Get ready for the 2008 Freshwater Science Society Conference where the focus will be on New Zealand freshwater scientists sharing New Zealand freshwater science. There are likely to be special sessions on large river ecology, sustainable dairy, state of environment reporting, wetlands and native fish conservation. However, the programme will be shaped by the abstracts that are submitted. Registrations for submissions will open in July.
Taranaki is proud to host this conference and the organising committee is keen to showcase the province.
The field trips will be held in the middle of the conference and will provide lots of opportunities for broadening your awareness of fresh water issues in Taranaki. Two full day trips are planned – one to explore central Taranaki and another to discover fish passes on structures around the ring plain. A series of half day workshops are being developed, so you will be able to mix and match workshops to gain some new skills: habitat assessment, fish assessment, stream evaluation, wetland monitoring and more.
There will be plenty of time for networking and socialising. A mix and mingle evening will be held early on in the conference at Puke Ariki, just a stroll along the New Plymouth coastal walkway from the hotel. Pack your region’s colours for the ‘Provincial and Proud’ conference dinner to be held at the Yarrow rugby stadium.
