What is
NZFSS?
The New Zealand Freshwater Sciences Society (NZFSS) is the society of New
Zealand's freshwater scientists that began as the New Zealand Limnological Society
(Limsoc) formed in
1968 and was renamed in 2005 to reflect the broad interests of the membership.
The society aims to:
"establish effective liason between all persons
interested in any aspect of fresh and brackish water research in
New Zealand, and to encourage and promote these interests"
The society achieves this by:
- holding workshops and
conferences
- co-operating with other scientific bodies (see links to related sites)
- producing
two newsletters per year
- maintaining a membership register
- communication
through emailing list for all members
- listing members' interests
- listing
relevant publications
Benefits of Membership
- Members are entitled to attend the annual conference.
Workshops on topical issues are often held in association
with these coferences.
- An annual newsletter is sent to members detailing recent
work at research institutions, members' addresses and
interests, and recent publications.
- The Society administers grants for conference
travel and visits by overseas
scientists through the SIL Trust Fund.
- The Society makes submissions to government bodies on
behalf of members.
